Obstacles

The path before me,
I can see
Traps and pitfalls
So clear as day.
Still I tremble
Still I hesitate,
For the path behind me
Looks quite the same
Save those traps and pitfalls
Seen clear as day
Have all been tripped
And stumbled in.
So now I wait,
Not sure what to do.

Lost Love

On starry nights
I come to you,
Through heaven's doors
I fall.
Coming back,
For just one glimpse
Just one touch
Just one last second
One last moment
With you.

How Did We Get Here?

How did we make it to this
Tension so thick it won't permiss
A single word to pass our lips?
We used to stay up late
Talking the hours away.
But now here we sit,
Neither one about to give,
Not an inch, not a breath.
We both want to come out on top
In this fight where I see no stop,
But we're both just losing.
Darling, it's all so confusing.
You mean so much to me,
So here I go, I'm gonna break,
And let you win,
If only for love's sake.

One Sided

If I gave you all of me,
Would you turn around
And give it back?
Or keep there
Beneath your chest,
To feel me close
With every breath?

Will you keep our fire strong?
Or let it burn
Right to the ground?

Baby I'm afraid to say
I already know which you'll do.

National Coming Out Day '11

The rainbow stripes
Flap strongly in the breeze.
Purple and blue and green,
Red and orange and yellow.
The flag waves happily
Up above my head.

I've felt the stings
Of words long since said
And still bare the bruises
Of kicks not so long ago dealt.

But I will not pretend,
Pretend I am not who I am.
They will not drive me away
They will not force me to run
No one should have to hide
In order to feel safe.
So today I am standing strong
Fully out
And fully proud.

Who will stand with me?

Living

A gorgeous blue sky
Reflected back,
In the ridged surface of the river.
The current on top looks calm and gentle
But underneath is a storm,
Ready to sweep one downstream
To the unknown
But to avoid being swept away,
You'd have to stay on the shore
And never get your feet wet.

What kind of life is a dry one?

Burning

Burning the candle at both ends
Burns it down faster
Burns it out faster.
But it keeps me moving
Keeps me busy
Keeps me dancing,
And the more I dance
The less I feel
The more I can ignore the pain.
The turmoil.
I can just dance away.

Don't dig too deep
Because things are buried for a reason
Bringing them to the surface,
Into the light,
Is never good for anyone.
So just let it lie
And burn burn burn
Faster and faster.
